Economic Potential
Industry plays the dominant role in the economy of the Republic. In 2007, production index was 116.8% to the level of 2006. The increase in production was achieved in the sphere of mineral resources (109.3%), in processing industries (119.4%), including: processing food, including drinks, (137.1%), pulp and paper production, publishing and printing (102.4%), chemical industry (124.4%), metal production and production of finished metal products (145.6%), machinery and equipment (171.4%) and in some other branches of industry.
