Machine-Building
Machine-building is considered to be a priority of state policy of industrial development of the Republic of Karelia. Production index by type of economic activity «Production of Machines and Equipment» in 2007 was 171.4%. The leading enterprises in this sphere are “Onezhsky Shipbuilding” company, “Petrozavodskmash” joint stock company, and “Onezhsky Tractor Plant” joint stock company.
“Onezhsky Shipbuilding” company is part of the transport group of “ORIMI” concern. As part of the presidential program “Revival of Russian Fleet”, it implements a large project of building bulk-carrier ships of “Karelia” type. The design of the ships allows them to carry cargo on international routes, with the possibility of entering internal waters of Russia, Germany, Ukraine and Rumania. Financing of the project is done by the credit line of Sberbank of Russia, and the company’s own money. Nine ships of thus type have been set afloat in 2004-2007. Another vessel will be finished during 2008, and building of the 11th ship will be started. Besides, in 2007 the company entered into an agreement with “Eestinova OU” company to build a series of ships for it; in June 2008 the lead ship of this type, “Emi Proud”, was set afloat.
“Emi Proud” is a multi-purpose bulk-carrier, type DCV33, designed by the specialists of the Sea Engineering Bureau (Odessa). The deadweight of the vessel is 4,500 tons. It is a self-propelled bulk carrier, with single propeller, designed for carrying general and bulk cargo, including containers of international standard, metal, grain, timber, coal, large-size and heavy cargo. The length of the ship is 89.9 meters, width – 14 meters. It has double boards and unlimited area of sailing. High ice category allows it to work in the Baltic and White Sea in winter. Vessels of such type are of great interest for private shipping companies who carry cargo in the European region. They are also more effective at sea than the mixed type vessels of “river-sea” class that our companies are used to. Only 11 crew members are needed to handle the ship. In the fall the ship-builders plan to test the vessel and hand it over to the customer.
In the near future the company plans to modernize and enlarge production facilities, which will make it possible to build ships up to 190 meters long and with the dock weight up to 3,000 tons.
“Petrozavodskmash” joint-stock company is the largest in Russia producer of machinery for pulp and paper industry, as well as oil and chemical industry.
The plant not simply sells the equipment, but the technology of producing paper, with all the factory warranties.
“Petrozavodskmash” is modernizing its production. The largest investment project of 2007 was purchasing and using in its foundry shop of the modern melting complex, produced by “Indukoterm” company, with capacity of 12 tons of liquid metal per hour, which increases production 1.5 times and guarantees high quality of the foundry products.
“Onezhsky Tractor Plant” joint stock company has been designing and producing tractors for forest industry for nearly half a century. During these years the plant has produced a whole range of machines, for various stages of logging. The main advantage of “Onezhets” tractors is its capability to work in hard conditions with high productivity.
Today “Onezhets” tractors have its own stable niche in the market both within the country and abroad: they are considered reliable, simple and inexpensive machines.
In the end of 2008 the production will be completely removed from the old shops in the center of the city of Petrozavodsk to the industrial zone, which will make it possible to implement modernization of the production, to optimize technological processes, minimize expenses and raise the quality of the products.
In 2003-2005, PKG group “Karhakos” joint stock company in Kostomuksha built production facilities to produce electric wiring for automobiles and EMS electronic products. The amount of investments was more than 900 million rubles. The total area of production facilities is over 20,000 square meters. Projected capacity is 450,000 sets of automobile wiring per year.
In 2007 “Elektromeka” joint stock company bought equipment for production of electronic products. The total amount of investments is 163 million rubles. This made it possible for “Elektrokos” joint stock company to create 193 new jobs.
