The structure of the fishery complex of the Republic of Karelia includes more than 200 economic entities engaged in industrial fishing, commercial aquaculture and processing of aquatic biological resources.
More than 90% of the export of products of the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Karelia is provided by fishing enterprises engaged in commercial fishing in the Barents Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
The main object of aquaculture in the region is trout , while whitefish, sturgeon and mussels are grown in smaller volumes . About a third of fish farms have their processing facilities for aquaculture facilities. Fish products are mainly supplied to the domestic market.

Projects
Ocean fishing enterprises are building 5 new fishing vessels in St. Petersburg with a deadline for implementation until 2023 (Alternativa JSC — 1 vessel, Karelian Seafood JSC — 1 vessel, Wirma Fishing Company LLC — 3 vessels), the total investment will amount to 12 billion rubles. The vessels are designed to catch and process cod and haddock in the Barents Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The delivery of the first two vessels to customers is expected in 2021. The implementation of the projects will increase the overall provision of enterprises with quotas and will contribute to the growth of exports of fish products.
Construction of a breeding and breeding center for fish farming based on the Vygsky fish hatchery of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Glavrybvod for the production of 25 million pieces of live caviar and 10 million pieces of fry. Completion of the construction of the center is scheduled for 2022.
Evening Breeze LLC is implementing an investment project for the construction in the Olonets municipal district of a complex for growing large planting material in closed water supply installations. The implementation period for stage 1 is planned for 2021.
IE N.V. Fedorenko on the territory of the Kondopozhsky municipal district plans to create a joint production of fish feed with a foreign company (the building of the former brick factory in the village of Berezovka was bought out), as well as the construction of a fry shop on the basis of the buildings of the former poultry farm (the complex of the Sunskaya poultry farm in Yanishpole was bought out).
In 2022, Kala Ranta JSC plans to implement an investment project for the construction of a workshop for growing large planting material using a closed water supply technology, the amount of necessary investments is 1 billion rubles.
Trout Laviyarvi LLC and Natural Product LLC (TEREX group of companies) are planning to implement an investment project for the integrated development of the company (construction of an incubation and growing plant, a fish processing plant, a feed plant). The volume of necessary investments is 0.5 billion rubles, the implementation period is until 2023.
In 2021, it is planned to launch fish processing facilities at fish farms of Kala ya Maryapoyat LLC in Kostomuksha (deep fish processing shop), PARAD-plus LLC in the Kondopozhsky municipal district (evisceration shop), Karelskaya Trout LLC (second stage) in the Lahdenpohskiy municipal district (deep fish processing shop).
Investment projects are planned for the construction of fish processing facilities at fish farms of Loisto LLC in the Muezersky municipal district, and Zaonezhskaya Trout LLC in the Medvezhyegorsk municipal district.
